1 משׂא The burden דבר of the word יהוה of the LORD אל to ישׂראל Israel ביד by מלאכי׃ Malachi.
2 אהבתי I have loved אתכם אמר you, saith יהוה the LORD. ואמרתם Yet ye say, במה Wherein אהבתנו hast thou loved הלוא us? not אח brother? עשׂו Esau ליעקב Jacob's נאם saith יהוה the LORD: ואהב yet I loved את יעקב׃ Jacob,
3 ואת עשׂו Esau, שׂנאתי And I hated ואשׂים and laid את הריו his mountains שׁממה waste ואת נחלתו and his heritage לתנות for the dragons מדבר׃ of the wilderness.
4 כי Whereas תאמר saith, אדום Edom רשׁשׁנו We are impoverished, ונשׁוב but we will return ונבנה and build חרבות the desolate places; כה thus אמר saith יהוה the LORD צבאות of hosts, המה They יבנו shall build, ואני but I אהרוס will throw down; וקראו and they shall call להם גבול them, The border רשׁעה of wickedness, והעם and, The people אשׁר against whom זעם hath indignation יהוה the LORD עד forever. עולם׃ forever.
5 ועיניכם And your eyes תראינה shall see, ואתם and ye תאמרו shall say, יגדל will be magnified יהוה The LORD מעל from לגבול the border ישׂראל׃ of Israel.
Priests Despise the Name of the Lord
6 בן A son יכבד honoreth אב father, ועבד and a servant אדניו his master: ואם if אב a father, אני then I איה where כבודי mine honor? ואם and if אדונים a master, אני I איה where מוראי my fear? אמר saith יהוה the LORD צבאות of hosts לכם הכהנים unto you, O priests, בוזי that despise שׁמי my name. ואמרתם And ye say, במה Wherein בזינו have we despised את שׁמך׃ thy name?
7 מגישׁים Ye offer על upon מזבחי mine altar; לחם bread מגאל polluted ואמרתם and ye say, במה Wherein גאלנוך have we polluted באמרכם thee? In that ye say, שׁלחן The table יהוה of the LORD נבזה contemptible. הוא׃
8 וכי And if תגשׁון ye offer עור the blind לזבח for sacrifice, אין not רע evil? וכי and if תגישׁו ye offer פסח the lame וחלה and sick, אין not רע evil? הקריבהו offer נא it now לפחתך unto thy governor; הירצך will he be pleased או with thee, or הישׂא accept פניך thy person? אמר saith יהוה צבאות׃ of hosts.
9 ועתה And now, חלו beseech נא I pray you, פני persons? אל God ויחננו that he will be gracious מידכם by your means: היתה hath been זאת unto us: this הישׂא will he regard מכם by your means: פנים אמר saith יהוה the LORD צבאות׃ of hosts.
10 מי Who גם even בכם ויסגר among you that would shut דלתים the doors ולא neither תאירו do ye kindle מזבחי on mine altar חנם for naught. אין I have no לי חפץ pleasure בכם אמר in you, saith יהוה the LORD צבאות of hosts, ומנחה an offering לא neither ארצה will I accept מידכם׃ at your hand.
11 כי For ממזרח from the rising שׁמשׁ of the sun ועד even unto מבואו גדול great שׁמי of the same my name בגוים among the Gentiles; ובכל and in every מקום place מקטר incense מגשׁ offered לשׁמי unto my name, ומנחה offering: טהורה and a pure כי for גדול great שׁמי my name בגוים among the heathen, אמר saith יהוה the LORD צבאות׃ of hosts.
12 ואתם But ye מחללים have profaned אותו באמרכם it, in that ye say, שׁלחן The table אדני of the LORD מגאל polluted; הוא וניבו and the fruit נבזה contemptible. אכלו׃ thereof, his meat,
13 ואמרתם Ye said הנה also, Behold, מתלאה what a weariness והפחתם and ye have snuffed at אותו אמר it, saith יהוה the LORD צבאות of hosts; והבאתם and ye brought גזול torn, ואת הפסח and the lame, ואת החולה and the sick; והבאתם thus ye brought את המנחה an offering: הארצה should I accept אותה מידכם this of your hand? אמר saith יהוה׃ the LORD.
14 וארור But cursed נוכל the deceiver, וישׁ which hath בעדרו in his flock זכר a male, ונדר and voweth, וזבח and sacrificeth משׁחת a corrupt thing: לאדני unto the Lord כי for מלך King, גדול a great אני I אמר saith יהוה the LORD צבאות of hosts, ושׁמי and my name נורא dreadful בגוים׃ among the heathen.
